I’m thinking of printing a bigger version of the open scan mini and was wonder how you decided on the original size. was it mostly the size of regular print beds? Or it’s there optical issues like focus? I have a CR-10 Max so am happy to go big. also am soon gonna get my autofocus camera module from Arducam. if you can share the CAD files that would be great.
any thoughts and ideas are very welcome.
thx in advance!
Yes of course I would need to remodel The mini to scale only the over all structure but not the mounting elements.
regarding the focus distance of the arduca, that sounds like it would help to have a bigger overall structure. Am I understanding this right you moved the camera backwards by 3 cm from the original position?
and regarding the field of view, would that mean that one can already Scan bigger objects that the 9x9x9cm objects mentioned in the documentation?
Hoi Sabine! I guess nothing stops you from going bigger, but you will have to *think* about it a bit. The Pi mounting and the holes for the ringlight/camera part cannot be changed, so you can't just scale to 150% and print.
Also, the field of view of the autofocus arducam is quite wide, you will likely crop your images quite a bit, unless you scan wide objects. Having said that, I found the arducam minimum focus distance to be almost unusable for the Mini, I put some 3cm M3 spacers to move the camera back a bit.
Good luck with your build, do you have a working mini already?
