I've been trying to use a nikon D40 and can't get it to work even though gphoto2 says it's fully supported for remote control.
The update preview button doesn't work.
If I click start routine, the preview does update but it gets tiny pixelated images that are weirdly cropped.
Also nothing gets saved to the camera's memory card.
Any idea what's going on?
The only thing I can get to work is to use external mode and manually push the button on the camera's infrared remote.
How is the external trigger supposed to work?
Is there any way to use it to output infrared? I found this: https://www.sbprojects.net/projects/nikon/
I'm upgrading soon to a nikon d3200 for better resolution, but i expect to have similar issues.
I'm using an IR remote like the one you linked to for my Sony A77. I rebuilt it by opening it up and testing which circuits needed to be connected for the remote to fire. Then I took a header, bent down two contacts, 3D printed a holder and connected it to the external connection of my Openscan PI. Works well. And I know I should have cut off the section of the header I'm not using but I can't be bothered right now. Hope this helps. Ming-Hua
